Fall is here and that means the smell of pumpkin, cinnamon, and pine take over the air! I absolutely love this time of year, especially in Las Vegas. It's like coming out of hibernation by opening the windows at home and exercising outside, instead of in the gym. This fall season check out the produce available.
This website is amazing: http://www.fruitsandveggiesmorematters.org/whats-in-season-fall
It lists the produce available in different seasons, and THEN...you can click on the individual fruit or veggie to learn ALL about it!
For example: Cape Gooseberries
Cape gooseberries, also called ground cherries, can have a papery brown cape that makes them look like tomatillos. They turn from green to yellow as they ripen. Capes are often removed for shipping. Berries are tart and have a texture similar to cherries.
How to Select
Choose brightly colored gooseberries with dry capes and without mold or soft spots.
How to Store
Store cape gooseberries unwashed in refrigerator for 5-7 days. Rinse before using.
Nutrition Benefits
Low fat, cholesterol free, sodium free, excellent source of vitamins A and C;
good source of potassium and fiber.
**Definitely check out the website. Usually the produce in season is cheaper than the produce not in season. So you can be educated on produce and save money!
Also, this time of year there are many active events being held.
For example, Color Me Rad; Zombie Run; Run,Walk, Roll Against Bullying; Turkey Trot; Santa Run, Sunset Rock n Roll Marathon; and many many more!
Get involved, and sign up for 1 or 2 events. There is always a charity associated with the events...so you're running/walking for a good cause and you will have a lot of fun!
Check out http://www.active.com/ for more events.
Check out the video....Soooo Excited http://www.colormerad.com/
I will definitely have a post about the run with lots of pictures!
